1969
In 1969, Robert McConaghy and his cousin Jim McConaghy came together to form McConaghy Holdings. Over the next ten years, they built and leased a number of industrial warehouse facilities across Brisbane.
1979
1979 saw McConaghy Holdings build their first shopping centre in Brassall, a suburb 5 km outside the Ipswich city centre. This retail space brought new opportunity to the area and was celebrated by the local community with fanfare on opening day.
1981
Biloela Shoppingworld was constructed in 1981, the first of many to benefit from the company’s integrated approach to building and in-house centre management. The centre is still owned and managed by McConaghy Group today.
2004
After 35 years in partnership, Robert and Jim separated their business to allow for growth and increased opportunities. McConaghy Group was formed in 2004 and is directed by Robert McConaghy, supported by his family and a team of over 40 employees.
McConaghy’s go on to complete 28 development projects, building shopping centres in regional areas stretching from Port Macquarie to Townsville.
2015
In 2015, Robert and his cousin Jim were recognised for their outstanding achievement and remarkable contribution to the retail industry. The pair were awarded the President’s Award by the Property Council of Australia at the Queensland Retail Property of the Year Awards.
Now
Today, the McConaghy Group team maintain their commitment to regional Australia, building on close relationships with retailers and local communities. As the Group continues to grow and reinvest, Robert’s values and vision will guide operations at McConaghy Group into the future.
